What it entails
Confidence on stairs, streets and uneven ground.
Balance Works is our dedicated steadiness programme for older adults, post-stroke patients and anyone recovering from a leg or ankle injury. We train the three systems behind balance — strength, sensation and vision — in a safe, supervised space.
- Falls-risk screening and home-hazard review
- Core, hip and ankle strengthening circuits
- Proprioception boards, ball work and dual-task drills
- Walking-aid fitting and stair strategy coaching
How it works
Steadiness is a skill. We train it.
01
Screen
Timed balance, sit-to-stand and gait tests score your falls risk and set a baseline we re-test monthly.
02
Strengthen
Legs, hips and trunk get stronger on machines, bands and body weight — always within safe reach of support.
03
Challenge
Foam pads, head turns, carrying tasks and ball drills teach your balance to work in real-life chaos.
04
Sustain
A fifteen-minute home routine plus quarterly check-ins keep your gains — and your independence — for years.
Why it works
Fear of falling shrinks lives. We reverse that.
Many of our patients arrive having quietly stopped using stairs, walking after dark or visiting friends. As scores improve, the world reopens: the garden, the bus, the grandchildren's football games. That is the outcome we measure.
Questions
Balance Works FAQs.
Absolutely — many participants start with an aid. We train with it, around it and sometimes beyond it, and we will check whether your current aid still fits you properly.
Most people notice everyday tasks feeling easier within four to six weeks. Measurable falls-risk scores typically improve significantly over a twelve-week block.
Yes, and we encourage it. Carers learn how to support practice safely at home, which doubles the value of every clinic session.
